Agile development

I have came to work at 6 in the morning today.
I am doing so many changes in the utility class which can affect so many base classes which are using this class.
I am not sure how it gonna screw up entire working of derived classes once it goes into production :(.

But thank god we have Junit Test cases, which at least at interface level assure me that my changes are not breaking business logic .

Well, not getting time at all now a days, even to write something, but Junit tests deserves a post :)

Addicted

Sometime I wonder should I get addicted to something or not ?
Like, in this semester I have got addicted to playing badminton so wen friends go to their home during holidays I cant play badminton with them and life becomes so boring ........
So sometime I think should I stop myself wen I realise I am getting addicted ?
Sometime I think, I am enjoying something so enjoy as much as you can but believe me when that thing ends its like what to do now ........
But I guess this is life finding something new, enjoying it and then move on in your life.

Manoranjan ka baap - IPL :P

"Manoranjan ka baap" was the term coined by some one I dont exactly remember but like as usual, our college mad ads team picked that, so did I :P , using that here for IPL.
Cricket and that too 20 - 20 is great timepass.
Cricket match every single day :)
This thing has great drama, I still laugh at incident when srisanth ( a bowler from Punjab team ) was crying on field because another bowler harbhajan singh had slapped him. We were laughing because Punjab team won the match and priety zinta hugged Yuvaraj Singh ( Captain of Punjab team) and not srisanth, so we thought poor guy is crying for that reason lol.
Another exciting thing is you can see new talent other than normal national team.
So looking forward for this second version of IPL ......

I love u and m gonna miss u

This story starts from second semester of my engineering education, my college life which I can never forget.
Every thing was new, kinda first experience, what u can say like ' pahela nasha' .......
New people, new friends, new professors :P.....
So in general routine used to be, watch movies till late night( donn ask which one ;) ), play CS, play AOE, FIFA @ home, do timepass on Boat club, never attend classes get your self added to defaulter list.
Even while studying do all things totally with freedom like crazy attitude, do only those things which you like and never do something that u hate. So always kinda rebel attitude, not to compromise on any issue.
Ok, first thing that I must mention very special about this semester,
first traditional day and some girls looked damn beautiful ( I do apologise I should not say 'some' but cant help they were looking really really very beautiful and gorgeous on that day, ok enough I guess it was effect of that day :P ).
First time we enjoyed regatta of our college boatclub, the Firodia show which we had always enjoyed, arts and craft exhibition which made us think that an artist can be in any profession let alone engineering.
The great street play :P , Ayush was part of that team, he was my first friend in college from the day one, nautanki saala.
Most important thing the 'DJ' :) we never had a very good dj but our dance group ( it was just a bunch of amature college guys, I guess now u can imagine what it was :D ) which was always enthu, made that a great thing, we had same group e1 in ' Ganapati Miravanuk ' in which we danced all night long on street of Pune in great music of 'Dhol' and 'Tasha'.
After that our college used to arrange a very good dinner for us on one of the day of annual college gathering, and I always had great difficulty to travel using 'PMT' after dinner, I thank them not for serving drinks :P else it would had been even more difficult.
I had joined debating group got to know few very cool people over there, so went to farewell party @ sinhgadh, oh my god I still remember that night like it happened yesterday.
During this all it was so obvious that I paid very little attention to my academics :P and got screwed in practical exam.
It was C programming subject, we had practical exam for the same, and for first time thought I will never be able to complete my computer engineering :) and I got divya gyan of engineering that 'Passing is the only aim when we appear for any exam'.
It was like I just could not imagine how I am gonna work with such thing ( C programming language) for next three years. I was not at all comfortable with that. I guess when first time u meet some one and you find many problems in that person, believe me there are huge chances that you will fall in love with that person, he he giving some funda again but something similar happened with me.
After 'C' almost made it clear that we wont be working again considering my great start but on the contrary it attracted me, I was crazy like what the hell this language offers to any one in this world ...
I started working with patience and curiosity like a child has, started feeling the power of 'C'. It was so transparent and very little abstraction, it was like, I always believed if you have a good idea then you can implement that thing in C.
So when ever we had to implement any idea my mind as well as heart :) always looked to 'C' for the answer.
Some one has said Programming = Algorithm + Datastructure.
So I was always thinking about programming from C attitude.
In short it was my first love in engineering, something that I really liked.
People do say, like in programming language is secondary thing algorithm and datastructure are more important, true very true nothing to argue, but if you love something its very hard to get out of it.
C had offered me great freedom, the power of pointer, power of typecasting.
Typecast almost anything into anything, whole memory is free to u, access almost any thing u want the way you want without any restriction the same attitude that I had to enjoy my life.
As a result, I never realised but I got used to it a lot and I did not work much on other languages, falling in more deep love with C. Hence I did many of my projects and programming in C, like second year Datastructure subject, third year operating system, computer networks, even third year application development lab, the most important final year engineering project in C.
Few days back we had a meeting with our mentor regarding our BTech projec and later we had some informal discussion, my project partner Ayush said 'I think I am lucky that I got to work with C, I almost hate JAVA'.
I will not say I hate JAVA, because it has some different goals than C, but first time I realised how much I will miss C :(.
Now I realise I should had started working on 'C' from the day one of my engineering life.
My other project partner Ketan, a very smart and intelligent guy, always said like money is in differnt areas like Web and business, not in C, he always hated Linux and other linux tools compared with MS office & windows, he might be correct I do understand that, yeah when I join industry I will not get to work on C much, but still I feel lucky to get an opportunity to work with C.
Once Ayush had said like ' yaar abhi jo field main join karenge aisa lag raha hain , wohi kaam karana padega jindagi bhar, matlab line change karana bahut difficult hain as your previous experience is not counted' and I had replied like 'are mat soch bahut, everything is interesting its just the matter of you attitude, platform and languages are not important logic and analysis is more important donn worry buddy'
Even my very good friend Nikhil said me that how we are going to work without C ?
hmmm .......... :(
I do realise that I am not a very very great C programmer who has won all contests in C or something like that, who should boast that he cant live without C but still somewhere I dont want to know facts of life which make me realise that every thing does not happen according to you expectation ...
I worked with languages like Ruby, JAVA, PHP, C++, I had no problem as such with them, after all I will be a professional and have to work as my profession demands but still in my heart there is a very special place for C who introduced me to the world of programming with great ease I wont give that to other language ....
all I can say is,
C, I love u, I will always love you and m gonna miss u a lot ......................

So just some thoughts on a very very good poem by Rudyard Kipling.
I was just wondering that even though we had such a good poem in our school curriculum I never paid any attention, but now after so much of time, I realise that what a good and meaningful poem it was !
Better late than never trying to learn some thing from this poem, any ways thanks Rudyard Kipling for putting all his experience in words and underlying the fact that keeping da head is the best way to deal with any ( well almost ) situation.

AK ( Akhil Kumar ) - Unlimited

This man deserves standing ovation for the spirit he has shown in the Olympics.
In India, life for a sportsman is not at all easy, lots of hard work, lots of patience are required to become a professional sports person, let alone winning something.
And especially if you are coming from an average family background.
But after you beat a world champion, when you are so close to your life time dream ( Winning Gold Medal ) it is hard to accept the defeat.
Still this man has shown guts, by saying after the defeat,
"If I can celebrate victory, then I should have the heart to take defeat also".

He had said that don't forget me.
Yeah man will never forget you. I read in the news, he is now focusing on London Olympics and the coming events in the next year and so forth.
This should also teach us that, NEXT opportunity is the best opportunity. :)

I just watched movie 'Kung Fu Panda', believe me I could not wait to share this dialogue.

You are too concerned with what was, and what will be .There is a saying 'yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift, that is why it is called present.'

What an inspiration this dialogue this gives you !
I mean, OK , films are fiction nothing like that happens in real life. But what is wrong if they motivate you to do something good.
It is said in Marathi, 'Grantha hech guru' ie. books are teachers, but in modern world, you can definitely say that,
' If a picture says a thousand words, then multimedia says a billion '.

I enjoy those billion words which films want to tell me, I mean every one is not that fortunate or that deserving to get company of great people. Your attitude, your background many other stuff may stop you from learning some thing directly from people, but movies, plays, books, blogs etc allows you to do that.

Ok. fine if you have not watched this movie and like to watch some cool animation and good timepass, go for this one.

I know it may get boring but still, another dialogue,

Cool. I mean you make something very ordinary very special, and that's what makes you special.

Engineering Vs Medical

When I was in my school, I always used to watch ads of education plan by LIC etc,
characters in da ads used to say ' main banoonga doctor '. Obviously becoming a doctor was considered to be best profession because of it's noble motive ie. saving life and amount of money involved.
So obviously, I used to think those who are doctors are working for human kind, and it is THE best profession which will enable you to do that. I used to think Engineers only work for commercial requirement like buildings, cars, software etc.
But last year I did a project at IITB Techfest, which was in health care domain.
ie. how engineering can be employed to improve life of millions of people.
Isn't that interesting, I mean even after being in engineering I can do some thing that will save life of millions of people or something that will make people more healthy. So rather than thinking Engineering Vs Medical, now a days I am thinking about ideas like, Engineering in Medical domain.
A huge field of innumerable opportunity right from software to mechanical to electronics.
Personally I think, student in the engineering colleges in India ( forget India , at least in my college ) , should be made aware of the fact and opportunity in this area, I am planning to have one lecture about this, to inform my juniors, lets see how it turns out to be. But I think this field has huge potential to make our lives better and who wont like to be part of it :)

IBM ISL internship

IBM ISL internship at yerwada, was one of the very good experience in da college life.
First of all my project was Web based, for which I have been working almost for one year, so I could directly start of with main working, rather than doing some preparation or exploring kinda work.
Experience was great as it had free culture, focus was the work and innovation in it. You were free to have your own working time and ( almost :P) anything that will give better results. People @ ISL were very encouraging and co - operative, enjoyed working there for two and half months.
One more interesting thing @ ISL is playing pool :P.
I mean on the first day, Ayush ( one of my friend from college at internship) and me had decided, we donno wat we will be learning from ISL , but we wont leave chance of learning pool lol.
People @ISL were frustrated finding us every time there, near pool table :) , but we used to forget all our work once we start playing pool. Great fun. Some things don't last for too long and some one broke ( I hate that person who ever that may be) the stick and we could not play pool in the later part of internship :( .
I learned one important thing here ( apart from pool :P ),
Good programming practice ie. style of coding, regularity in the pattern etc will always save your efforts, ie. in finding bugs , to extend code etc, hope so this will help in me in BE project.
One must have internship experience, so that he will come to know importance of week ends :P , college and one year that he will be having in his hand.
Some times you have to come in formals @ISL, so at least for one year I am not gonna wear formals :)

DESIS da DreaM Part II

31 st July was da last day of my IBM ISL internship, so finally got time to complete the second part :)
I was just discussing about this with Nikhil, that we have got two excellent things ie. placement and the project@ CRL, its like we have been given every thing that one expects to have in his kitty. Lets see how we make use of this.
To mention about internship, I was so much involved, so that there was almost no partying, or rather I was not knowing what it really means, getting a good placement.
But now, after attending college, I came to know that, D E Shaw ( Package obv.) is so much appreciated :) . Really funny, but I am not at all used to do 'maaj'. Lets see if I am able to learn that also before I leave COEP :P
OK. So one year left so many things to do, wanna do AI wars, AUP, CAT, CRL project(A2C2). Won three villages in Tribalwars.net , ll win many in coming days. Have to complete BRMS project,...........
One more important thing, people have many myths about me( :P ), will break many of them.

DESIS da DreaM Part I

Wow !,
I don't have words to express ( as well as time :P as I am doing IBM internship ) about my second placement @ DESIS ( D E Shaw India Software) .
I mean with such package in my hand I can do so many things for which I had almost ' 0 ' chances.
I was the most lucky person amongst four selected. Because of my algorithm ( one of the section in the aptitude )I cleared the aptitude. I take this opportunity to thank Nikhil a lot, not just in case of DESIS but over all just because him I could maintain my interest in C and Algo ( because when guests used to come to my home I used to go to his :P ).
As well as all my seniors who really guided me what I should go for; especially Ajinkya( KALE COACHING CLASSES lol ) and Ashish Gilda. I have troubled them a lot when I was not understanding some part of ' C ' or DS.
I had huge fun with them when we did MINDSPARK ( COEP techfest) last year, believe me doing an event with your seniors is the best way to interact with them ( Except than ragging. Unfortunately Being a ' localite ' I did not face ragging so 'hostelite' people may better explain about this one ).
As I am speaking about placement this year, Computer Engg. had a great start with 5 /6 placed in Oracle were from Computer Engg., and then came these self proclaimed losers and made Computer Engg. a loser, but ' Placement abhi baaki hain ' lets keep this healthy competition amongst us to excel.
But I must appreciate Sameer, for his well planned entry into DESIS. This person gets what he want in his life, let it be Nvidia project,let it be dream package,let it be IBM internship or any thing. Kudos to DESIS for selecting such a talented guy from da pool of damned good people.
Nikhil has always been a sleeping monster, once he is on, forget no one can stop him.
So DESIS people have really made a good impression on me, I mean just in one apti & interview how the hell they got the best guys from department ? ( Exceptions are there ;) ( me lol ) )

Relying on Luck.

Now a days, I am doing only one thing, looking for BE project ( A last year project to be done for 6-8 months which is in general sponsored by company ) .
But I am damned confused.
Reasons are

1 ] Luck factor
2 ] ( Not )Knowing my field of interest.

1 ] Luck factor --

I guess almost every senior told me that guide for the project is the most important thing.
Now to select our project the most biggest problem is we have to approach a company or some times company approaches us ( College :P) .
So the guide part is hidden, you will be lucky if your guide is good enough.
The general equation is if a company is good enough then chances of getting a good guide are more.

2 ] ( NOT ) Knowing my field of interest --

This is a big issue for me.
In the first year we were not introduced to core subjects. So I did not went for any project as such.
In second year,
We started working on application program, like flash or at the end of second year WEB.
In the third year,
I worked on Network project. I also worked on " C " language in third year.

Now the problem is which field to select for BE project.
As I am working on WEB since last 1.5 years, it is a well known field. I know it's pro's and con's compared to other field.
But subject like Parallel Computing, Operating System , Network are always very fascinating to work on. They use all the core concepts than using a set of API.

So now switching to basic like assembly language or parallel computing, system related project might be losing edge that I have in WEB. But I guess it is the best time to try hand in some other technology.

Lets see what happens.
By the way , I was thinking of a good solution why not approach the guide directly ?
any ideas / suggestions ??

Excitement of Do & Die

Excitement is funny thing and difficult to control.

Once in my friend's class a professor was motivating them for the exam.
Like most of us , when he got excited he said it was a " DO AND DIE" situation for them.

And all class burst into laughter,
all said common man, if any way we are going to die why the hell we should DO some thing.
I guess after that incident that person will always think before getting excited. :)

पुनः हरी ॐ । हे शब्द अगदी कठीण आहेत ते त्याच्या उच्चारा मुळे नव्हे तर ते कधी वापरावे लागतात त्या प्रसंगा मुळे ।

असं जरी असेल तरी हा ' पुनः हरी ॐ ' कोणाच्याही जीवनात येऊ नए हीच ईश्वर चरणी प्रार्थना ।
आणि ' हरी ॐ ' पासून ते ' इति ' पर्यंतचा प्रवास सुखाचा होवो या शुभेच्या .

By the way, this academic year was a bag of mixed experiences.
First semester there was a big challenge, after mid semester exam I was one of the low scorer in the class and challenge was some how clear the exam. Thanks god,I could handle that pressure and came out of that without any failure. Indeed that frustration of proving something gave me motivation to do project, which won third prize in the Techfest, IITB.
Second semester holidays, I worked on my basics and I understood how poor they are :(
at least that helped me to wake up and work on my weaknesses. Academics was not that interesting except CN project.

The reason to write this today is I gave aptitude test today for a company and failed very badly. Almost every one else was able to clear that except me. So again life is testing me. Hmm lets see how I can handle this. But one thing is sure I will make sure that I won't be in this situation again. This sucks !

Team and Faith

It is said that there is no ' I ' in the team work.
But where do ' I ' stand in a team ? Is the most important question one should answer !!

Faith is the basis on which any team is built, so if you do not have faith in your teammates then it is just group of people not the team.
Every one likes to be part of the team where some one or every one trusts you.
No one likes to be just part of the group unless there no seriousness.
So what do I crave for is a motivated team than just a group of people !!
